Riesling Baked Pears

Makes 4 Servings

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears
  • 2 cups Riesling
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 4 strips orange zest
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Cut a thin slice off the bottom of each pear and arrange in a 9 x 10-inch pie pan so that they are standing upright.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk wine and honey until combined; pour over the pears. Add bay leaves, orange zest and cinnamon sticks to the wine mixture, placing them around the pears.
  3. Roast pears for 45 minutes to 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes, until they are wrinkled and tender (different pears will result in variations in the wrinkling).
  4. When pears are tender, transfer to shallow desserts bowls using a slotted spoon. Discard bay leaves.
  5. Pour the wine mixture into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for approximately 6 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  6. Drizzle over the pears and garnish with the cinnamon sticks and orange zest. Serve pears warm, at room temperature or chilled.
