Broiled Grapefruit

Ingredients

  • 2 Red Grapefruit
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (preferably raw sugar)
  • 2 maraschino cherries

Directions

  1. Set the top even rack about 4 inches from the broiler. Preheat broiler.
  2. Cut each grapefruit in half. Take a small slice off the bottom of each half, if needed, so they will sit flat on a baking sheet. Run a knife around edges and between segments to loosen. Sprinkle each half with 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar.
  3. Remove stem and pit from cherries, cut in half. Place one half cherry, round side up in the center of each grapefruit.
  4. Add remaining ingredients to the mixing bowl and combinegently. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  5. Broil for 5 to 6 minutes until the sugar is bubbling and caramelized.
